Kiriwina School Scholarship

Kiriwina Island is off the east coast of Papua New Guinea in the Solomon Sea. The High School on the island only teaches students to year 10. If students wish to proceed on to years 11 and 12 they have to go to school on the mainland which is a 2 day boat trip away. They board at the school for the whole year then return home in December. The teachers feed the children from moneys collected from their parents. The parents have very little access to work for them to earn money, they mainly fish and tend gardens for food. $250.00 will feed one student for the year. $160.00 pays their boat fare and will allow them one visit home during the year and $90.00 pays for books and miscellaneous costs. This adds to $500.00 per student. The wonderful support that this project has received has meant that we have been able to increase the goal which will enable two students in per year into the future, to be given the chance to complete year 12 and possibly move on to university.
