Medical bills for Rare Cancer

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kim Hamilton, and on 10/24/14 I was told that I have an extremely rare form of Uterine Cancer. I am 48 years old and the mother of 4 beautiful and amazing children.

On 10/13/14 I went in to have surgery for the removal of my uterus due to fibroids. During the course of the surgery, it was discovered that I had a fibroid measured at 10cm and a uterus the size of a 5 month pregnancy. For over a year I had complained to my doctor of the size of my uterus and I was calmly told I was just gaining weight. I also complained about severe back pain and urinary problems . I had multiple CAT scans and ultrasounds, yet no doctors picked up on the tumor that was pressing on my spine and causing numbness in my lower legs.
Two weeks after I had surgery to remove my uterus, my doctor called and informed me that they biopsied the uterus and discovered I have Low Grade Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma. I was shocked and devastated to say the least. All I could think of was who was going to take care of my children. I can't die. They need me. It was a terrifying thought.

I immediately made arrangements to be cared for at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My surgical oncologist, Dr. Ginger Gardner, has been wonderful and so positive. She scheduled another surgery for 12/8/14 to remove my ovaries and cervix, and to check and see if  the cancer has spread.

Right now I am trying to recover at home from the second surgery. My recovery is very painful and I await the results from the biopsies of the second surgery to learn if my cancer has indeed spread. Needless to say, this has taken a tremendous toll on my entire family. My children are faced with the reality that their mother has cancer and it is a terrifying prospect for them. My husband, who works three jobs just so we can get by, now has to care for me and worry how to cover all of my mounting medical bills.

I've taken this painful step of publicly sharing my story in hopes of raising some money to help cover my uninsured cancer costs. Any amount anyone can give to help in my fight to beat cancer and grow old and live a long healthy life with my beautiful children would be a special gift and a blessing.  All donations will go directly to pay my medical bills. Thank you for your kindness and support for my battle with cancer.

With faith and hope,
Kim
