Kiley Rae is a disabled dog trainer, model, and native of South Omaha, NE who is seeking assistance with the tremendous financial burdens associated with surviving arsenic poisoning, escaping from Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) (medical) abuse, and managing chronic illnesses related to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
Rescued Rottweiler to General Rommel, Service Dog:
Prior to rescue, Rommel suffered brutal abuse, including having his canine teeth filed down. When Rommel was discarded gis original owner, he was found on a dirt road in Missouri beaten within an inch of his life with broken legs and his muzzle duct-taped shut. Tracie Jordan, of Midwest Rottweiler Rescue, agreed to take Rommel in and give him a shot - the shelter caring for him was really pulling for him to have a shot. However, due to Rommel's extensive trauma, he was labeled unadoptable and would live out his days at the rescue.
Kiley met Rommel after he had been at the rescue for about a year in 2016, and the pair were instantly inseparable. Rommel's rescue granted Kiley permission to test Rommel for Service Dog work, despite his "lifer" designation, and he exceeded all expectations. Being a 5 year-old adult Rotteeiler with strong obedience training, Rommel was able to go to work for Kiley almost immediately while she only had to task-train him. Rommel would loyally serve Kiley during every aspect of poisoning; ranging from emergency room visits, diagnostic testing, intravenous infusions, appointments, outpatient services, and companionship. Kiley believes Rommel was critical to her survival and that he remains just as important to her recovery.
Kiley Rae's Deathly Deterioration
In mid-2018, Kiley began experiencing bouts of vomiting, joint pain, fainting, gastrointestinal distress, migraines, weight loss, vertigo, and dehydration, while under the care of her trusted caregiver.
By August 2018, when Kiley sought medical help, she required wheelchair assistance, several ER visits in that month, and was suffering from seizures, hair loss, bone pain, loss of senses, kidney pain, extreme dehydration, and worsening weight loss. Kiley's doctor ordered myriad tests, and several results confirmed toxic metal poisoning.
Despite eliminating all known potential sources of poisoning, Kiley's laboratory results continued to worsen for 5 months.
Kiley's trusted caregivers sought out interactions with multiple law enforcement agencies and paid thousands of dollars for weekly blood tests to "prove" a poisoning. Later, consumables testing would also be purchased through a private, chain-of-custody laboratory.
During those months, Kiley survived in excruciating physical pain and while being denied almost all medical and supportive care. Kiley's trusted caregiver labeled her "terminally ill" and decided "that was the (jist) of it," but continued to pay for private blood tests.
When Kiley's condition started to improve in early 2019, her trusted caregiver assigned Kiley the "job" of "(giving) law enforcement the most info we can," in February 2019.
At that point, Kiley demanded medical care for her ongoing cardiovascular, pulmonary, nutritional, pain, psychiatric, medication management, and mobility needs. When Kiley sought assistance for medical abuse and neglect, she was promptly labeled a "psych case."
Kiley would spend approximately 18 months in 2019-2020 working to re-establish her patient credibility and to locate appropriate specialists for her complex conditions.
In July 2020, Kiley established a care team and received consistent medication access through a community resource.
Though Kiley has improved profoundly, her road to recovery remains arduous and complex. Kiley continues to battle numerous effects of arsenic poisoning daily, as well as myriad chronic illnesses.
Kiley is assisted physically and psychiatrically by General Rommel, her rescued Rottweiler and third Service Dog.
Kiley has always owned rescue animals and has been a long-time volunteer with and advocate for Rottweiler and bully dog breeds, rescues, and assistance animals.
Kiley Rae will utilize donations for costs including but not limited to ongoing medical expenses, Service Dog Rommel, wheelchair/mobility aids, home healthcare, nutritional support, physical therapy, transportation to appointments, home modifications, trauma counseling, general living expenses, and legal fees.
Moving forward, Kiley hopes her story can raise awareness and empathy for victims of Munchausen's syndrome by proxy (MSBP), mental health conditions, and genetic connective tissue disorders like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
