Help Support My Brother Kenton

Donation protected
I am writing to you in hopes that you may consider helping my brother Kenton with the financial burden that his life long illness has caused. Kenton is a father, husband, brother, son and uncle and is loved by all those that surround him. He is an extremely compassionate, loving and selfless man. Unfortunately Kenton has been sick since he was a child and was mis-diagnosed for over 20 years. He was finally diagnosed in his late twenties with severe chronic ulcerated colitis and required a complete colectomy as his disease had progressed too far. He also had secondary bowel cancer and has had approximately twenty operations since then. He has been on permanent disability since 2002.

Currently Kenton has been in the hospital for 22 months. He has had 5 surgeries for intestinal blockages in 18 months. He now has too little of intestines left for another surgery and there is nothing more to be done except to try and control his symptoms and severe pain. Kenton has less than 100cm of small bowel and no large bowel left and can no longer process anything orally and must be fed intravenously. He continues to have extremely painful and life threatening blockages. Sadly the blockages are occurring more frequently and each time a blockage appears to subside and we hope to take Kenton home, but another blockage occurs. Unfortunately he will continue to get these blockages for the rest of his life.

Kenton currently has chronic reoccurring small bowel obstruction and underlying motility disorder, short bowel syndrome, paralyzed intestines and chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction.

When Kenton's pain is bearable he is able to leave the hospital and go home for a few hours. Unfortunately he is unable to stay because his pain is too severe to be managed at home.

Financially this has been a huge burden and costs are rising to take care of Kenton's everyday needs. It is costing over $2000 a month just for medication and supplies needed that are not covered by medical. On top of these bills, mortgage and other expenses are pilling up. Not to mention additional hospital expenses like TV ($104/week) parking and cell phone use. As you can imagine being stuck in a hospital bed for 21 months these things become very costly.

Along with the continuous financial help of family and friends, unfortunately the heavy cost of Kentons health care is still too much to handle and is an extremely stressful on himself and his family. Not to mention the grief of his suffering. If you can find it in your heart to help Kenton and his family during the difficult time it would be so greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely, Robin and family.
