Sending our Heart to Kelvin & Senna

Kelvin Chung has been with Giant Media and Adknowledge as our Senior Graphic Designer in Los Angeles for over four years.  On July 9th, Kelvin lost his wife Chelsey to complications from cancer only two months after receiving her diagnosis.  Chelsey is survived by Kelvin and their 9 month old baby girl Senna.

Kelvin is one of the early employees of Giant Media, having been with the company for over four years. His loyalty is just one of his many admirable characteristics. To anyone that has had the pleasure of collaborating with Kelvin, you know that he works extremely hard, and always has a funny comment or hilarious GIF to keep the mood light. He’s an invaluable, dedicated member of our team, and has always been a positive, supportive presence to the whole company.

We all know there is no way to cover all the costs associated with a devastating event such as this.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Kelvin and his family.  If you would like to join us in helping Kelvin, we have set up a GoFundMe account for him and his precious baby girl.

Here is the story from Kelvin Chung that has been shared on Facebook: “Yesterday morning I lost my dear wife, my best friend, my life companion and the mother to my precious daughter. She took her last breath by my side, at home, comfortable in her own bed. While we never treated her disease as a secret, oversharing was never Chelsey's style. We assumed that we would have more time to let people know. To soften the impact of the news with words about how her treatment was going well. I believe at this time she would want people to know her story.

Chelsey was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer 2 months ago. 2 months. It had already aggressively spread to her bones and liver, with no real symptoms other than a breast lump that we were hoping was a clogged milk duct. Throughout all the tests, scans, blood draws, treatments, side effects, increasing pain and fatigue she never lost her spirit. She remained the happy, smiling person that you all remember her as. I’ve never once heard her complain, or want pity, or ask “why us?” She simply went into “nurse mode,” pragmatic as ever, gathering information and learning about the best way to go into battle. Chelsey kept me grounded, kept my focus on the fight and priorities on Senna. Even when we had moments of fear she encouraged me to journal, to attend a support group and just held me as we allowed ourselves to feel the emotions. Then it was back to the task at hand, and what's best for Senna.

A trip to the ER this week revealed that in the past few days or so her increasing fatigue was a sign of her liver functions failing. Her medical team was shocked at the speed and told me what to expect in the days to come. Although she was in and out of lucidity the one anchor in her mind was getting home to her baby and on Thursday I was able to grant her wish and brought her home. Chelsey, adamant as ever in doing things on her terms, refused the hospice bed, commode and wheelchair. She wanted to sleep in her own bed, use her own bathroom, and her own legs as much as possible. She was kept in comfort and surrounded by love, with Senna always nearby for her to touch and kiss. In her final hours I talked to her, sang to her, played her favorite Disney songs, and assured her that her wishes for Senna and our family would be fulfilled. I also read her every card, Facebook message, text or email so she knows how much love was being sent her way. She passed away gently, holding my hand and comforted by family.

Chelsey gave me a lifetime of memories in the 15 years that we were in love. Although the initial diagnosis was devastating it gave us an opportunity to cherish ever minute that we had. She would often wake up and say “it’s another beautiful day, what should we do with baby today?” I was hoping for more time but she and I have no regrets on how things played out. I want to express my eternal gratitude to all of the family, friends, MECNs, coworkers, my Giant family (past and present), caring medical team, and everyone else who sent thoughts, prayers, and love to us. I'm especially grateful for those who helped me care for her in her final days. It is comforting to know how many loved her and saw her as I did and I’m overwhelmed by everything from the fundraising page to the phone calls and texts to see how we’re doing.

Chelsey had an amazing life, and deserves to have that life celebrated. I will be reaching out with information about services very soon. Even though I mourn my wife I’m reminded today, on Senna’s 9 month birthday of the gift she has given me: the love of a daughter and a part of herself to fill the void that’s in my heart. Chelsey, I’ll love you forever seepie; and like I said before, have a fantastic journey and I’ll see you when I get there.”
