Keep K.Short Going

Psst...you, yes YOU!

Hey, I'm Kathleen Short also known as K. Short. I recently graduated from Northern Arizona University (it snows there btw!) and I aspire to become a talk show host (like Ellen and Oprah) one day. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this dream until my third year of college when I was pulling all-nighters to become an English teacher.

Since graduation, life has had its way with me. Everything from getting my first apartment, paying my first bill, learning how to cook a meal (other than Ramen), finding new friends, leaving my college town, and of course, paying back student loans. #postgradprobs

Lately, I've been asking myself if I should continue this career...this journey...this dream. I can either become an educator; like I first planned (the easy route) or I can continue this endeavor of becoming a talk show host (the more difficult route).

Currently, I'm a barista and (almost) a server because unfortunately, a talk show wasn't waiting for me after graduation.  Go figures! And the income I'm receiving is going towards...well, living.

And as most of us know, not only is scheduling inconsistent, but so is this kind of income. Where time is money and money is time, it's been difficult to save when other expenses take priority. I still find myself coming up short.

So..I just need a little bit of help from all of you. I have a YouTube channel and it hasn't been doing as well as I would like after a year of posting once a week. After researching other YouTubers, not only is content king, but so is quality (since there's so many of us!).  As of right now, I'm filming with my cell phone (that has limited storage) and using my partner's laptop to edit my videos (also limited storage). The struggle is real.

This is where you come in. I'm raising money to assist with the expenses of investing in new equipment. Primarily an upgraded camera and my own laptop, so I can begin uploading quality videos, updating my website, creating a demo reel and all things "talk show host." The lighting, tripod, mics, building my own home studio, that will come with time and at my own expense.

But as of now, I'm afraid that if I wait until I save enough money to buy these items, it may be too late. Another year will pass and doors will be opening and closing, motivation may be gone,  and the opportunity may be missed...all because I wasn't preparing for it in the meantime and couldn't afford the equipment. Anything can happen.

So I'm asking you to invest in my struggle. Invest in my dream. Invest in me.

One day, I'll be able to share this story with others. Saying, "I remember this one  time when I was 24 and I almost gave up and threw in the towel, but didn't... beause so many people believed in me and my aspiration to become something more...something greater."

YOU invested in me. YOU believed in me. YOU didn't allow me to become another post graduate who quit and had to look back and wonder, "What if?"

You will become apart of my story that I'll share with the world, forever.

Thank you now and always,

Kathleen Short (K. Short)

P.S. I recognize that YouTube is only one route and trust me, I'm keeping my options more than open. I've looked into taking community college classes, continuing my education and receiving my Masters, internships, volunteering, reaching out to organizations, searching for a mentor, looking for opportunities within telelvision, radio, online magazines, ect. But YouTube is the one thing that has brought me the most joy since I've graduated and continues to give me the feeling of hope and accomplishment.
