Singing and Service in Costa Rica

My name is Katrina and I am a 7th grader. I am also an active member of the youth ministries at my United Methodist Church; I acolyte, and participate in the youth choir. I am an officer for the Crossroads youth group, and will be attending mission trip this June to service an underprivileged community. I am very service oriented; as the only Cadette in my Girl Scout troop, I am the senior most Girl Scout and have to set a good example to the Brownies and Juniors that look up to me. I also was nominated by a staff member of the middle school this year to join the Westshore Young Leaders Club where I learn about helping to prevent alcohol and drug use among my peers. I love my community and want to continue to make it a great place to live.
On a personal note, I love to read and really enjoy our public library. I study Contemporary dance, and I love to explore new things at our rec center, like swimming or ice skating lessons. I am an honors student who carries nearly straight A's every quarter, I am taking high school Algebra as a 7th grader and I hope to one day go on to be a pediatrician. But one of my true joys in life is singing. I am currently a member of the 7th grade choir and a member of Chamber Choir under the direction of Mrs. Fancher at my school. Outside of school, I also sing with an amazing organization called the Oberlin Choristers.
Last year, I auditioned for a place in the Oberlin Chorister's Canterra choir (Canterra translated from latin means "music" and "world"). It is a touring choir of students in 7th - 12th grade who travel all around the world sharing the gift of music. I was very excited to learn that I was accepted and will be singing in June of 2016 on the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York. The Choristers is like a family to me and a place where I feel that I fit in. It has taught me amazing skills in solfege, sight reading and vocal skills, and I just found out that I have been invited back for the 2016-2017 year. In the summer of 2017, my choir and I will be performing service work and singing in Costa Rica.
It is my dream to share the gift that I have been given in my voice with others all around the world. In order to go to Costa Rica, I must raise approximately $7600 and I would appreciate any money that you are willing to donate. I believe that the skills I am learning and experiences that I will have from these trips, will in turn be brought back to my community. I will be able to share what I have learned in my school and church choirs and more.
