"KISSES 4 KIRSTEN'S BONE MARROW "

Donation protected
Hi my name is Kirsten Danielle Byrd, I am 7 months old and I need a bone marrow transplant. I am a member at New Hope C.O.G.I.C were my pastor is Elder Steven K. Wilson Sr.,  under the Leadership of General Board member Bishop Ted Thomas Sr.I live in Chesapeake , VA,my parents graduated from Deep Creek High School .
I was born July 17, 2014 6lbs 9 ounces, 17.5 inches of pure joy.  My parents, Amber Johnson and Previn Byrd, were very nervous to meet me but when they seen my face, all fear passed away. That day was the best day of my life, I was so excited to meet my family and they were blessed to meet me. I am just like any other baby you would meet, I love to play and laugh, I cry when I’m sad, and I use plenty of pampers. Before I was born, my mom would often wonder who I’d look like, if I would have all of my fingers and toes, and who or what I would one day become. Mommy would also pray that God would bless her with a healthy baby girl, and God did just that. God heard her prayers because he makes no mistakes. My complete healing is in Gods hands.

One day my mommy noticed that a patch of my hair fell out; she was a little concerned so she took me to my pediatrician. My doctor accessed me and referred me to a dermatologist at the Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughter, This nice lady took some samples of my hair and she drew some of my blood. 3 days later my mommy received a mildly disturbing call from the doctor, concerning my test results. The doctor told my mom that there was something wrong with my blood so she referred me to a cancer and blood disorder specialist at CHKD. After numerous blood test and doctor visits, I was officially diagnosed with a disease called Chediak-higashi syndrome.   My bone marrow transplant will rescue my bone marrow so it can make healthy blood cells again. The doctors have already explained to my loved ones the seriousness of this procedure. I will need to undergo strong doses of chemotherapy to destroy my bone marrow. Yes, my hair will fall out but its ok, my grandma said that she is going to keep her hair bald from her chemo treatments, she will be my twin.

My transplant will be performed at Duke University Medical Center in Durham North Carolina. The doctors said that I will have to stay there for at least 90 days after I receive the transplant, that’s a long time. Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Funding this life saving procedure is a monumental task, as there are many medical expenses not covered by my insurance: co-pays, medications, my mom and dad’s travel to and from VA to NC, and lodging expenses. I thank you in advance for the sacrifice that you will make to help support my family and I. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I may not understand everything that is going on but I know that God is going to protect me under the shadows of his wings. Thank you for giving me a chance to have a new life, you are my hero.
