Julian Smith's twins' education

Donation protected
Julian Smith died at the age of 49 having been diagnosed with melanoma only two months before.  Julian had counted on being able to support his twin 13 year old daughters, Ursula and Savannah, in their educational endeavours, including post-secondary education, out of earned income.  Sadly, Julian’s death has meant that that will not happen. I expressed to his wife Suellen that I was not the flowers and big charity kind of person but that I was the type of person who would want to instead contribute to something held dearly by Julian – his daughters’ education.  His wife, Suellen was taken by surprise by this suggestion, but agreed that there was no more fitting tribute to Julian than his daughters and their education. And so the idea of this Gofundme page came to be.

Education was central in the lives of both Julian and Suellen. They believe in the power of education to change lives and their own careers and voluntary work bear this out. Julian’s dearest wish, and greatest concern, as his illness progressed, was to secure his twin daughters’ education. Having the resource to access educational support and opportunities that will allow Ursula and Savannah to flourish was paramount for Julian.

Ursula and Savannah are already at state schools. Julian and Suellen have historically substantially supplemented the twins’ education in areas where their schools fall short. For example, Savannah is dyslexic and Ursula is multilingual.  Julian had hoped that his daughters might continue to benefit from the broader education and support where necessary that had been implemented while Julian was still alive and working.    This Gofundme campaign is to ensure that Julian’s hope becomes a reality and that Savannah and Ursula continue to benefit from the education begun during Julian’s lifetime and leading them through to post-secondary education. The campaign goal is equivalent to two undergraduate educations (fees and living expenses) in the United Kingdom. I suggested to Suellen that there may be others like me who would prefer to honour Julian in this way and wanted to share the opportunity through this Gofundme page.
