Johnny Awesome is a lifetime musician. He has a career spanning a 50 year period and over 10,000 shows . His given name is John Bickford, and I am his sister Julie.
On Nov 20, 2014, Johnny had an accident and lost the index and middle fingers of his right hand. In addition, the two remaining fingers on his right hand are seriously compromised. He has not been able to work since. Fortunately, Johnny was in the military from 66 to 69, and the veterans administration has taken care of his initial medical expenses, the surgery and stabilization. They are not covering additional rehab or prosthetics.
Because of the accident, he has not been able to earn any money for living expenses. As a lifetime, self-employed musician, he has no retirement or other supportive financial structure. Though he remains positive, it is not certain when he will be able to accept a job playing music again. He is playing for short periods, and that is a good sign, but he struggles to do so. Loading gear in and out and setting it up is currently out of his reach as well.
As a biker and an entertainer, Johnny has donated his time, talent, and money, participating in literally hundreds of benefits for other people and community causes. Johnny is much more comfortable giving of himself than asking for help, but now it seems, it is his turn for some community support.
At this difficult time of readjusting to his missing fingers, his day-to-day life, and his career goals, any and all help is genuinely needed and sincerely appreciated.
