Help Basketball Study Abroad Opportunity

Family and Friends-

After years of hard work, I have been selected to participate in the biggest athletic stage of my life. USA East Coast (formerly known as East Coast Basketball) is a study abroad opportunity for collegiate basketball players that will be held in New York, Finland and Estonia. Since it has started in 2006 Coach Guy Rancourt has been able to successfully touch over 70 players with this unique experience. Not too long ago, I was asked by Coach Guy Rancourt to join his USA East Coast basketball program as they embark to participate in this years Four Nations Cup in Tallinn, Estonia from July 31st-Aug 8th. USA East Coast offers a chance to improve their participants game, allowing them to see what life will be like if they graduate to the next level overseas and also provide the honor that comes with representing our country in this competition.

My name is John Monkam, and I am an upcoming junior at Lycoming College. As I've become older, I have seen and grown to understand the stress that attempting to pay my college fees has put on my parents. I have made strides in the classroom, and outside of it to maximize my college experience all the while putting myself, and my family in the best position possible when I graduate in 2016. I am the Men's Basketball Team Captain, a member of Student Senate, the Campus Activity Board, associated brother of Lambda Chi Alpha, I have volunteered to be Black Student Union President, and was selected to become a Resident Assistant for the 2014-2015 school year. My efforts earned me the Rose Pfaff Scholarship; which is given to someone who is a leader on campus, and provides a continuous service to his or her fellow students, and the college.

As quoted in SLAM Magazine in its November 2012 Issue:
"College basketball players can’t take a semester abroad, their season prevents that,” says Guy Rancourt, USAEC founder/coach and head coach at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. “This is their opportunity to learn about the world.”

I have been blessed to know I have donors that will help sponsor part of this trip for me. I will have to, however, have to cover the last $2,500 of this trip. This clearly is alot considering the timing of which I have been informed and my family's circumstances. I have been working two jobs and understand I may have to rely on outside sources to get this done.

Please help support my opportunity. Any penny would help.

Thank you, God Bless!
