Joey's Not Fighting Alone

Joey Boncic is a sophomore at Bethpage High School who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on May 19, 2014 and began chemotherapy within 3 days. Joey lives with his mom, Karen, his three younger siblings, Katarina, Savannah, and Luke who has autism and his grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s.  Karen is raising her family as a single mother, caring for her child with special needs as well as an ailing parent. Now once again this diagnosis has her doing what any loving parent would do, putting her child's needs before her own.

Karen has been forced to take an unpaid-leave from her new job to be with Joey while he undergoes a long, hard treatment process. Joey has to have at least 4 rounds of chemo, 2 rounds of radiation and then more chemo lasting a minimum of 8 months. 

Even with all of these overwhelming challenges, Karen is a strong, positive person.   She just does what needs to be done.

Joey and the Boncic family have a long journey ahead. This family will now have an overabundance of medical and other additional expenses related to the cancer treatments. Our goal is to raise funds to provide the family with financial assistance during this difficult time.
