Hello Everyone,
As many of you know I was a police officer for the Village of Mahomet for approximately 10.5 years. On May 7th, 2016 I was involved in an shooting in which I was struck in the arm.
Following the incident, I developed severe anxiety and was unable to sleep for more than 20 min. a night. I sought medical treatement and was diagnosed with PTSD, depression, and anxiety, amongst other issues.
Through my psychatrists and psychologist I attempted to "get my mind right" so I could return to duty. In February of 2017, my doctors indicated they did not believe I would ever return to police work and suggested I apply for disability. I did so.
As per statute, the Village of Mahomet allowed me one year to return to duty. As the doctors stated I could not, the police department allowed me to use my benefit time and then terminated my employment. As such I have not received pay since July of 2016.
The pension board has sent me to three of their doctors as per statute and I have two of my own all indicating my above diagnoses and my inability to return to work. Despite these reports the pension board has still not set a pension hearing date to resolve my issue. In addition, I am unable to work while the process carries out.
I have received a couple forwards from the workman's compensation claim, however, the amount is not enough to cover my bills. I have exhausted my savings and credit cards.
It is with great embarrassment that I swallow what little pride I have remaining and ask any of you to help with whatever you can.
Thank you
Jeremy Scharlow
