Jenna is a beautiful, smart, talented 18 almost 19-year old girl. Her artwork is amazing! She is also a writer. She has hopes and dreams, just like you and I have. But without help, she will never see those dreams fulfilled.
She is very sick, and help is nowhere to be found. We have gone to doctors and hospitals, over and over again, and are always sent home with nothing.
Jenna suffers from severe, life-threatening anorexia. It is the most frustrating illness because what she needs to survive, while right in front of her, is the most terrifying thing to her. We eat and drink every day without giving it a second thought, but for her, the very thought of taking anything into her body sets her into extreme panic.
No; she doesn’t want to die. In fact, she’s really scared to die, but the nature of her illness is that she cannot do what is necessary to keep her alive. Anorexia is a mental illness first; the resulting health problems are the symptoms of the mental illness. At less than 80 pounds and extremely dehydrated, Jenna’s doctor is very concerned that she will have a heart attack at any time.
Even so, the hospital will not admit her. She has been on a waiting list for an adult placement at the Ottawa Hospital for almost a year now, but she is still just waiting.
She gets dizzy and has chest pains, and we bring her into emergency, always hopeful, but are always sent home with a, “Call your family doctor to follow up.”
She has been sick for 3 years, and other than a short stay in CHEO, there really has been no help forthcoming. She has been on a waitlist for a therapist for 2.5 years. The whole family is in crisis over this, with her younger siblings growing up in total fear of losing her and in frustration over losing their childhood.
We really don’t know where else to turn. With 4 kids, we don’t have the funds to get her the treatment she so desperately needs.
We feel this is our only hope. Please help us get Jenna the help she needs. Your donation would help with treatment and post-treatment. Please give whatever you can.
