Send Jen to the RI Convention in Sydney!

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

My name is Jennifer Smith and I am a Past President of Lost Coast Rotaract based in Eureka, CA.

Rotaract is a Rotary-affiliated group of young adults whose efforts begin at the local, grassroots level, with members addressing their community's physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service. Lost Coast Rotaract is sponsored by the Eureka Rotary Club.

Check out our Facebook to see some of our current projects! Our meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30 pm at Los Bagels in Eureka (403 2nd St.).

This year our club would like to send me as their representative to The 104th Rotary International Convention in Sydney, Australia from May 30 to June 4 in 2014. The Rotaract Pre-Convention will be held May 30-31, immediately before the convention itself.

From the website:
"The Rotary International Convention is held annually, aiming to bring together representatives of all clubs in the world for workshops and seminars for fellowship.
These conventions are intended to stimulate, inform and inspire all Rotarians and are described as the largest conventions in the world of the business tourism industry."

My history with Rotary began back in the 6th grade when my family hosted our first exchange student. Since then, our family has grown exponentially, inviting new brothers and sisters from all over the world. I was lucky enough to be a Rotary Exchange Student to Brasil, and I can still see the positive effects of it in my daily life. This may sound cliché, but the experience opened up a whole new world for me, full of adventure and opportunity. When I returned from my year abroad, I co-founded Rotex (a support group for future, current, and past exchange students) in our district. Since then, I have enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, and even studying abroad again in college. Later, I was a founding member of the Lost Coast Rotaract, and have been active ever since, taking on lead roles for projects and events, serving as Secretary, and then as President. I was even chosen as the Rotaract District Representative, which was a huge honor. I will be aging out of Rotaract soon, but very much look forward to joining Rotary and continuing to devote my time to this amazing organization.

It will be an absolute honor and privilege to attend this conference on behalf of my club to not only bring back new ideas and tools to make Lost Coast Rotaract even more effective in our community, but to build long-lasting partnerships with other Rotary and Rotaract clubs around the world.

Any assistance to help me reach my goal of $3,500 will be most helpful. All the funds will go towards Rotary/Rotaract-related activities including airfare/transportation, housing, food, and Rotary/Rotaract-sponsored events.

Thank you for your interest in Lost Coast Rotaract and sending me to Sydney, Australia for the Rotary International Convention! If you have any questions for me, please feel free to contact me!

Sincerely,
Jennifer
