Jeanette is a lucky lady! Married to her best friend and mom of three boys.
One day she was out working in her yard and collapsed. She found herself unable to stand and walk into her house. A trip to the doctor found that she had abnormally high levels of calcium in her blood which then lead to the diagnosis of a Parathyroid Adenoma (tumor).
The Parathyroid consists of four small glands the size of apple seeds that are located near the Thyroid gland. Despite the similarity of their names, the Thyroid and Parathyroid glands are NOT related.
The Parathyroid gland produces the hormone that is responsible for the calcium levels in the blood. Having a Parathyroid tumor means that there is too much of this hormone telling Jeanette's body that there is not enough calcium in her blood so her body steals calcium from her bones leading to bone weakness. This all leads to high calcium levels because her defective glands never stop telling her body it needs more calcium in her blood.
Complications of Hyper-parathyroidism include- Kidney stones, kidney failure, heart complications, stroke, loss of mental capacity and even death.
Jeanette NEEDS to have this tumor removed! her ability to function is impaired. She has to use a walker to navigate her home and a wheelchair at work.
We are hoping to raise enough money to get her and a family member to the Parathyroid Institute in Tampa, Florida where experts who specialize in this rare tumor can perform the surgery she needs to help turn her life back around.
Money raised will help cover airplane tickets, hotel stay, medical expenses and help pay off the power wheelchair she needs for mobility.
