I don't know how to perfectly word this 'ask' of you all: old friends, extended family and certainly some complete strangers. But the short of it is this: Jason & I grew up together and one of the last 'chunks' of time he & I spent together was the summer we painted this VW van. I should say, HE painted this van. I just kind of hung out and provided (questionable) comic relief for the good part of those three months.
Rather than try to capitalize on the unimaginable, inconceivable tragedy on December 2nd, 2016 that was the Ghost Ship warehouse fire; where Jason and 35 other talented artists unexpected passed away, I'd like to raise funds in an effort to preserve the van for what it is and what it should forever be: Jason's art on full display for all to enjoy.
I have a very personal connection to this VW Van and would be ecstatic to help keep Jason's legacy living forever through his works of art. If I am fortunate enough to win this auction, I will be working with MICA & SFAI (where Jason attended college) to display this incredible piece.
I purposely did not post pictures of the van's interior because it's completely irrelevant to what the purpose of this request is. I also have no idea how much the van will go for, but can commit that I will match the funds this auction raises at 30% (up to $3k if it reaches the goal of $10,000). If the auction amount and/or$13k, isn't enough to win the auction, I will donate the funds to his family.
Please spread this far and wide - support the life-long legacy of the most incredible artist I've ever met; my best friend for my entire childhood: Jason McCarty aka JSUN. RIP!
