Guatemala Family Mission Trip

The Mission
This November we are heading to one of the poorest areas of Guatemala to serve with an extraordinary organization, Believe Guatemala. Believe’s mission is “to destroy all forms of poverty through God’s grace and love, by providing opportunities for education, spiritual growth, health and psychological services, and community outreach programs to impoverished communities in Guatemala.”
The Believe Guatemala Restoration Center is just steps away from one of the largest and most toxic landfills in Central America. Most residents in this area rely on the dump as their primary source of income—they scavenge (right along side the vultures) for any reusable and repurposable items to sell. Opportunities for a step-up out of poverty are limited; the allure of gangs, drugs, trafficking, etc. are everywhere, and many people are without hope.
Believe Guatemala strives to restore hope to poverty-stricken communities in Guatemala City by providing educational programs, community outreach, and leadership opportunities all aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty.
We LOVE that we get to be a part of this organization that works to show the most marginalized people that God loves them and has not forgotten them. During our time there we will serve at the Restoration Center (teach VBS, do crafts with kids), work various community projects, deliver food baskets and water filters, and visit the local orphanages and schools, among other things.
While we feel so grateful and humbled by this opportunity, we also feel nervous, anxious, and overwhelmed by what the experience will bring. Our family has never wanted for anything, and certainly has never been face-to-face with abject poverty, and we know that this can be emotionally complicated and exhausting.
So now, The Ask. First, we ask that you pray for our safety and God’s provision in this journey. Second (the uncomfortable part), will you consider supporting the mission financially? A portion of the funds go directly to Believe Guatemala’s Restoration Center and community programs. Some of your donation goes to Believe Guatemala for the feeding, housing, and transportation of mission teams like ours that are serving there. We are so grateful for any financial and emotional support we receive from our family and friends!
Also, keep an eye out for our other creative fundraising efforts (Lily has artwork forthcoming!).
Thank you so much!
