Imbabazi: A Rwandan Musical Drama

Jerry and Laura King are going to Kigali, Rwanda for two months this summer to work on developing Imbabazi the film,  into a musical stage drama. We will be working together with Rwandan filmmaker, Joel Karekezi and actor/dancer Eliane Umuhire to develop the script, score, and movement. Collaborative workshops with other Rwandan artists and musicians will help us to discover together how to tell this story in a way that is authentically Rwandan, but also universally accessible.

We believe the stories from Rwanda's past and present are worth getting out to the whole world. Her pain and suffering must be honored and remembered. But even more so, Rwanda's stories of forgiveness and reconcilation  can speak potently to situations worldwide of social disintegration.  Rwandans have some things to tell us about making a way forward out of devastation toward authentic peace.
