Ilia\'s Road to Recovery
I am raising money for..Ilia Bezhani and family. As some of you know Ilia suffered a brain hemorrhage back in May of 2011, in Albania. Ilia was in a coma for approximately 2 months. He has been treated the past 5 months in the Intensive Care Unit. An MRI showed that Ilia was beginning to form fluid in his brain (hydrocephalus) which he would need a surgery to drain the fluid from his brain to relieve pressure. By doing this, this could possibly help Ilia with his recovery.
Doctors from London and Italy were able to visit Albania and assess Ilia\'s condition and decide on plans the family should take on. Both Neurologist\'s (brain specialist\'s) agreed he would need a surgery and rehabilitation to guide him in the right direction. Unfortunatly Albania was not able to offer him with either the surgery nor rehabilitation due to the fact that there are not any facilities in the country that offer Neurologic rehabilitation. The Italian Neurologist assessed Ilia and offered to have him transported to Italy where he will preform brain surgery.
The Bezhani family was told neurologic rehabilitation is very costly but is highly recommended to guide Ilia in the right direction for his recovery. The family has looked into many rehab facilites throughout Europe such as in Germany, Austria, Greece, Italy and Turkey which most places are asking for 80,OOO -100,000 Euros for 2-3 months of rehabilitation. Since this is out of their country these expenses will be all out-of-pocket expenses.
I was able to visit the Bezhani\'s twice in the last five months and words cannot describe what an amazing family they are. The family stays by his bedside day and night and will do anything and everything to make this time as easy and as comfortable for him. I have never seen a family fight so hard, such a beautiful thing . The few times i met with him he would open his eyes at times for me and squeeze my hand letting me know he knew i was there. At times he also shed tears, somtimes tears of sadness and some of joy. Moments like those are ones I will never forget... I hope and pray that the Bezhani\'s will be able to share happy moments together again soon. <3 Tatka

a lil update: Ilia and family are currently in Taranto, Italy as of Oct 4th. Family is staying in a hotel nearby (5 min walk from the hospital). They were informed Ilia will be having his surgery later in the week. As always this is a very risky surgery. Let\'s all keep him in our prayers. I will keep you all updated!

Ilia had brain sugery today. Doctors inserted a valve into his brain to drain the fluid into his abdomen. The surgery was 5 hrs long and Doctors said the surgery went well. He also had his eyes open shortly after surgery!! Keeping the Faith.
