Road to Recovery

My husband Ian was diagnosed with Uveal Melanoma in 2010. Four years later, he had his eye removed so that the doctors could remove the tumor. Since then, he had been receiving bi-annual scans to make sure the cancer did not spread.

In August 2017, back pain brought Ian to UCSD and after a series of MRI’s, doctors discovered lesions on his spine, lungs, abdomen and pelvis. The same Uveal Melanoma from 2010 had spread.

Ian now is faced with stage 4 cancer and is seeking a series of experimental treatments at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. These treatments include various combinations of drugs used in immunotherapy (boosting Ian's immune system to help fight the cancer) and extremely cutting-edge therapies, like TILS (T-Cell harvesting and infusing Ian's own T-Cells to shrink the tumors). We are in good hands and staying strong and optimistic!

We are moving our family -- including 2-year-old Izzy and a baby on the way! -- from San Diego to Houston to be closer to the medical center, cut down on travel expenses and maintain a level of "normalcy" as we fight this.

Funds are needed to support remaining airfare, moving costs and medical bills. As we anticipate this being a long journey, the relative urgency is low and we appreciate any type of support -- whether it’s monetary, a smile, a hug or some inspiring words.
