Tragedy struck a treasured member of the military and veteran caregiving community and her family on Thursday evening when a fire destroyed their home and all their belongings.
Tragedy struck a treasured member of the military and veteran caregiving community and her family on Thursday evening when a fire destroyed their home and all their belongings.
Jessica Klein and her husband Flip heard fire alarms ringing during the night and escaped the life-threatening situation with the help of a neighbor, just before flames enveloped their home in Gaithersburg, MD. Both were rushed to the hospital and the extent of their injuries is not yet clear.
Jessica provides full-time care for her husband, a military captain and triple amputee. She generously volunteers her time and expertise to support other military caregivers in her role as Fellow for Caring for Military Families: The Elizabeth Dole Foundation, a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to raising support and awareness for military and veteran caregivers.
The Elizabeth Dole Foundation has started a fund to aid the Kleins as they recover from their injuries, the loss of their home and begin rebuilding their lives. We invite family, friends, members of the military and caregiving communities and warm-hearted Americans, grateful to Flip and Jessica for their service to our nation, to join our efforts and support them during this difficult time.
