Meet David! A 12 year old, Ukrainian boy, who loves to play soccer, swim, eat fried meat, and help little kids with their homework. He says he would like to experience more nature and to go hiking because he loves the outdoors!
We have the privilege of hosting this sweet orphan in our home for 4-6 weeks this summer. We couldn't be more excited!
Meet us! Matthew and Whitney Johnson, ages 33 and 27 respectively by the time David arrives.
Him: A computer repair genius. Her: A social worker.
Him: A wannabe 80s rockstar. Her: An actual pianist.
Together, we are best friends looking to open our hearts and home to a child who needs to know he is CHOSEN, WORTHY, WONDERFUL, and CHERISHED.
To give him the adventure of a life time!
And, hopefully.....help him find his forever family while we're at it!
So, what is orphan hosting?
Hosting is a wonderful opportunity to bring hope and show unconditional love to an orphaned child. The child experiences the love of a family, many for the first time.
They learn about functional families and functional relationships. Whether or not they are able to be adopted, it's our hope that the child is blessed by the relationship with our family for years to come.
They learn English, get eye and dental care, and experience the simple childhood pleasures that they have never been able to experience before...
..like tubing down the Poudre River, peach picking in Paonia, swimming at Horsetooth Reservoir, going to New West Fest, visiting the Children's Museum and Denver Aquarium, biking and hiking, bbq's in the backyard, going to the dog park, and oh-so-many-more-fun-filled-activities!
Please consider joining us on this most excellent journey! We are not able to do this on our own. We have taken a HUGE leap of faith, and wait in eager anticipation to see who is going to come together and join us to make this the best summer ever for David!
Our goal is to raise $5000 as that will cover the minimum of our expenses:
International plane tickets/visas/travel and medical insurance for David ($2700)
Airfare for one of us to go pick him up in CA (or Chicago) and bring him to CO then back again as he will not have a Guardian to bring him to/from Denver. This includes airfare for David as well. (~$1600)
Background checks and Fingerprints ($134)
Homestudy (~$350)
Beyond that $5000, there will be other costs.
Most orphans arrive with little clothing to their name and other host families have found it necessary to buy them season appropriate clothing to get through their stay.
There will be added food expenses with a growing boy to now feed! And, then there is all the fun stuff like taking him to the pool, museums, and movies!
