Skye is limping and in pain.

Skye is a beautiful, loving 3 year old 100% pure bred American Staffordshire Terrier. She was abandoned in a kill shelter in So. California during catastrophic fires and was rescued just moments before she was set to be euthanized simply because no one chose her.
Skye is now safely in private rescue awaiting her forever family. During her time in rescue our volunteers have described her as many things: A world class snuggler, kissy girl AND a “great athlete” - she has always seemed to defy gravity with her silly wiggles and vertical, circular leaps. She has been endlessly playful with a love of romping in the grass chasing butterflies.

Just recently she began to limp and didn't seem quite herself for no apparent reason. Suddenly our vibrant, prancy girl seems over-tired and though we can tell her sweet heart wants to engage in play she is resistant and more timid. After an exam and x-rays we now know Skye has 2 torn ACL’s - (the key ligaments in her hind legs). To tear them both at the same time is rare and debilitating. She is in pain and the injury is creating arthritis that will increase the longer we wait on surgery. It’s imperative that she have surgery on both legs, one after the other about 8 weeks apart, to prevent further inflammatory damage and preserve her ability to have an active normal life AND MOST IMPORTANTLY to get her healthy enough to find her happily-ever-after in a loving forever home!!

Unfortunately ACL surgeries (called TPLO’s in dogs) are among the most complicated and expensive of all orthopedic procedures. We have an estimate for $6300 per leg all inclusive (for the surgery itself and all the rehab, follow up and x-rays).
We are hoping to raise $12,600 for our sweet Skye. As soon as we can begin the surgical process, and if all goes as planned, in 4-5 months our girl will have 2 fabulous bionic legs and NO LIMITS - the vet tells us after her recovery she will be able to run and hike and play again!!
