Raine's medical fund

Donation protected

Raine is fighting a life threatening illness for which the treatments are not covered by insurance. The first round of treatment, donated by an amazing person, has been keeping Raine alive but not out of the woods. We're so grateful to that person. Thank you T!

The next treament needs to start in less than two weeks (Novenber 24th) and there is no funding available. Raine has had to rely on Hospital and Emergency Room treatment to keep a life threatening infection at bay. It's still life threatening and without continued treatment with donations from the kindness of friends and strangers this life saving treatment won't be possible.

More Medical Details:

Approximately two months ago Raine was hospitalized after waking up to a very swollen face. It turned out to be a severe infection under the facial skin and abscessed tooth. A severe infection which the first antibiotics did not work well on nor reduce the swelling. Meaning the infection was not only untreatable at that time by a dentist due to the swelling, but with a fixed income and no dental insurance there is no easy solution. (Note that during an assault Raine was punched in the face and many teeth broken.)

Every clinic for low income patients was contacted. Not one was able to assist, once the swelling would allow, as they do not have oral surgeons anymore. And many have year plus waiting lists plus below poverty level income limits. Raine does not have a year or more to wait. This is life or death, and soon. Raine's doctor, insurance company and social worker was contacted, as well as friends in the medical field for any other ideas, and all avenues were exhausted.

More hospital visits continue to be required for strong IV antibiotics and treatment. Even with stronger antibiotics the infection had already spread to the facial skin and sinuses. This makes it life threatening and emergency dental treatment is required. Hospitals do not provide dental services.

Due to this being an emergency, not knowing what else is going to be effected and exactly what treatment will be required, we can't list exact cost per treatment. We can tell you that the first treatment was expected to treat the major problem and create a long term plan for non-emergency treatment, but rather than one tooth being required to be removed, four had to be removed as the infection had spread. That increased the cost immensely. Just two days after the first treatment it became apparent that the infection had spread further making, minimally, three more abscessed teeth which need to be removed emergently. The infection makes it too dangerous to have more open wounds, so Raine must wait until the 24th of November *if the funds can be raised by then.*

Cost depends upon number of x-rays, number of teeth treated, how much oral surgery is involved and other costs, like Novocain. This cannot be known before going back in.

There is also the cellulitis (skin infection) and sinus infection, continued swelling of the left side of Raine's face and head which may not resolve through dental treatment, per medical professionals. Primary care doctors are being consulted and hospital visits continue to be necessary until this can be resolved. Each ER visit is adding to the out of pocket costs, along with medications.

It's very hard to ask for help and we appreciate everyone's support. It's humbling to be here. It's also very scary.

Please give what you can. Every dollar helps.

Thank you.
