Help Save Flo’s Face & Teeth

Here is a picture of Flo in the hospital

What Happened

Florence (Flo) was a passenger in a car accident while on the way back from a Church meeting in Uganda.  Flo was the only person of a number of people in the car who was hurt when she was thrown from the car and dragged.  She suffered additional injuries with the worst occurring to her face and head.   The driver is in hiding so as to assume no responsibility, there is no insurance to cover medical bills.  A picture is attached.

During this accident Flo has suffered much damage to her face with 3 of her front upper teeth having been broken off, deep cuts to the forehead and below her lower lip.  Flo will need caps put on her front teeth and due to the damage on her lower lip they have not yet been able to close  the wound. She has additional aches and pains to her body but those will heal fine.  She still has much pain in her face and head.

The 1st hospital Flo was taken to was poorly equipment and without the skills to correctly treat her. She was transferred to a better hospital where she is now however the work of the 1st hospital had to be undone as it was not done correctly and as a result of this – they have not been able to close the wound below her lip – regretfully leaving this open to infection.  They need wound to heal more before giving Flo more surgery to correct and minimize scarring.  Hospitals in Uganda are not to the standards here is Canada albeit they try their best.

A person’s face is what people see when meeting, greeting, remembering, whether it instills trust, caution, avoidance, or is friendly and pleasant to look at.  It’s a person’s most important identity.  Please help us so that damage to Flo’s face is repaired well.

Treatment
Where Flo was taken for immediate treatment was not well equipped with the skills necessary to do the right job of treating her injuries.  Flo will need facial plastic surgery to correct the errors made when immediate treatment was performed.  She will need dental caps for her 3 front teeth.

Expenses
Florence does not have to money to cover her hospital bills, the dental work, nor her immediate living expenses and loss of earnings until she can return to work.

How will your contribution help?

Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and it will assist Flo by:

1)      Helping to pay the immediate hospital bills and her medical needs.  The Hospital will not release Flo until the bill is paid - so delays in paying continue to increase hospital costs.

a.      Raising some initial funds to pay the hospital bill is the most immediate and urgent issue.

2)      facial plastic surgery to correct the scarring and initial mistakes made during her immediate accident treatment

3)      Dental work to correct the broken teeth

4)      Assist with immediate living needs until she is can return to work.

Any contribution of any size that you can and are willing to make will be greatly appreciated by Flo and ourselves.  Thank you for your consideration.

About Flo

Florence lives is Uganda and is our daughter-in-law’s 1st cousin.  Our daughter-in-law now lives here in Canada and Flo currently lives in Uganda and these two are best friends.    Flo spent about 6 years in an orphanage during her teen years but went on to get a University Degree.  Our family here in Canada had prior to the accident started a permanent resident sponsorship to bring Flo to come to Canada.  She was here on a visit and wants to be a part of Canada.

Flo is a very upbeat, positive, happy and respectful person.  She has a university education, has good business sense and she is a strong lady who is always willing to help whenever and wherever she can.  Flo is a wonderful law abiding, Church going, very caring and generous person who has done much volunteer work to assist others in need such as when she was doing volunteer social work.

As an example our son suffered a serious head & brain injury while in Uganda and after 4 days in hospital in Uganda – he was medevac’d to Johannesburg, South Africa – where he remained in hospital for over 3 months before he was medically transferred back to Canada – where he was in hospital an additional 8 months.  Flo left her job to travel to South Africa so that there was a family member, a face of a person he knows - by our son’s side every day.  While we picked up Flo’s expenses in Johannesburg – she missed Christmas with her family and friends in Uganda so that our son would not be alone.  She was also without income during this time.  For Flo’s unselfish act to assist our son - we arranged for her to come stay with us in Canada for 6 months as a thank you and so that she could continue to see our son’s protracted recovery.  Hopefully this will give you an idea of Flo’s character.  She is a wonderful lady and deserves better than what has just happened.

Our Son's Head injury

Flo’s family and friends in Uganda struggle financially to make a living and earn little.  Life is a struggle.  They will assist where they can but financially it will be very small with most support being personal assistance, visitations, and subsequent home support once she is released from the hospital.

Flo needs that assistance now and we know that Flo would be very very thankful for any donation of any size to assist her in her time of need.
