Ashley Needs Our Prayers & Support

A prayer for Ashely....
Psalm 56 1-9

"Be merciful to me,my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack. My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me. When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? All day long they twist my words; they are always plotting to harm me. They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, eager to take my life. On no account let them escape; in your anger, O God, bring down the nations. Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll-- are they not in your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me."

For those that judge...Be mindful God is the only true Judge and he Judges us ALL. No one sin is greater than the next; a sin is a sin. We all have sins, so think about that before judgment is passed.

In John 7, Jesus said:

"Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."

This fundraiser is to help my niece Ashley Ard who is facing serious criminal charges in Anchorage Alaska. Before I get into that, let me tell you a little about my niece.

Born, Ashley Nicole Mayo, on December 27, 1988 in Portsmouth, VA, is a very sweet, funny, bubbly, good-spirited, down to earth, and loving person. I adore my niece and there is nothing in this world that I would not do for her, God willing. She was a very active and outgoing girl in high school. She played field hockey and was a member of the Navy ROTC program. She is very likable and would be a friend to anyone that was willing to be her friend. With much excitement, she joined the Army at the age of 20, in 2009 and became a Chaplains Assistant. When she called me and told me she was joining the army, she said, "Auntie, guess what?" "I'm going in the Army just like you did." I was touched and surprised that she decided to follow in my footsteps and choose that branch of service instead of the Navy, which she had learned about all through high school.

I thought to myself, she's going to be a Chaplains Assistant, how fitting. I say this because Ashley was no stranger to God's ministry. She was an active member of the youth usher board and praise dancers team for her church back in her hometown. My sister and my mother, God rest her soul, always had Ashley by their side going to service almost every Sunday. With church being her foundation, if she ever strayed, as most do when they try to find their way, especially at such a young age, we felt comfortable with her decision to join. We knew that wherever she would be, she'd be in good hands as long as she kept God in her heart.

Ashley was assigned at Fort Benning, GA for her first duty assignment. She was always enthused about this or that, and learning new things and meeting new people. Soon she met a young man who was also stationed at Fort Benning, GA and shortly after, they wed unbeknownst to the family. They had their first child Aja, my adorable great-niece that you see with Ashley in the picture I provided below. Those two are as "thick as thieves" almost inseparable. Aja brought Ashley so much joy.

Slowly over time we all noticed a change in Ashley. She wasn't the bubbly outgoing niece whom I'd known all of her life. Sure she smiled a lot, but those that were close to her knew that it was not always genuine. We saw the joy return to her only when she talked about her little girl.

We reached out to her hoping she would talk and open up about anything that may have been troubling her but she didn't. Whatever it is that was troubling her she kept it in, with a few exceptions to posting on social media. One would have to read between the lines to try to guess what was going on in her life.

She and her husband got reassigned to Alaska, at the end of September. She seemed to be happy about the move, but at the same time she appeared to family, to be a little scared, unhappy, and disconnected at times. Sometimes, she appeared to be depressed. She moved so far away from home and did not know anyone there. The members of her unit never got the chance to know her before all of this happened. If they would have had the chance, I'm sure that she would have been well received amongst her peers and superiors. She is a good soldier that's in an unfortunate situation.

"I KNOW IN MY HEART THAT MY NIECE IS NOT THE PERSON THAT THE MEDIA IS TRYING TO MAKE HER OUT TO BE."

Ashley is not the heartless monster. People are always saying things like, "If that where me I would have just:.did this or this or that." No two people walk in the same set of shoes. Only she and God knew what was going on in her life, in her mind. One never knows how they would react to anything unless they lived the exact same life and was going through the same things as Ashley. So, those of you that are trying to be judge and jury, please stop. Think about this; this has not only affected her and our family, it's affecting my little great-niece as well. She does not understand what has happened to her mommie. She just knows she is nowhere around and she misses her dearly. I was in Alaska with Ashley and her mother (my sister), for support after this happened and I could see the sadness in my niece's eyes as well as the sadness in my great-niece Aja's eyes. It was all too heartbreaking.

If you want to find out the details surrounding my niece's case, just goggle her name and you can read all of the bad publicity in the media that you want. Just keep in mind that the media can be cruel at times and shares only one point of view. On top of that, people make harsh and cruel statements about things they know nothing about. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

This case has yet to stand trial to present all of the evidence and circumstances, so please don't find her guilty until she has had her chance to defend herself. She has a relationship with God and God knows his child.

This fundraiser is an attempt to help with her legal expenses and to raise money for bail, which is $250,00.00. We need to raise enough for a good attorney and pay all necessary legal fees. We do not know how much the legal fees will cost at the moment, so the funds that are donated will remain in the account and be used only when it is necessary to pay for legal expenses.

Ashley and our family have a rough journey ahead, and we all just ask that you keep us lifted up in your prayers and donate whatever your heart leads you too. My prayers are with Ashley, and her piece of mind, my great-niece Aja, her husband and his family, my sister for all the strength that she will need while she is in Alaska dealing with all of this, and for everyone else this case has affected.

To the readers and donors, God bless you and thank you for taking the time to read my desperate plea of help. Please make a donation today because we need donations as soon as possible!

My sincerest,
Sharon Mayo-Taylor
