My mom needs our help! This past Saturday my mom was out walking when she slipped, fell and broke her kneecap in half. This injury requires surgery and up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off from work.
My mom is single, 65 years old, and lives in Wilmington by herself. She is currently working three part-time jobs and is taking classes several nights a week to get her training and certification to become a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. In fact, she just passed the first level of certification and landed her first job in this field last Friday!
Her passion is to help those in need. Although this is a noble transition, it has resulted in a significant reduction in her income. Currently, she works part-time at a homeless shelter, part-time at a halfway house, and part-time for a mortgage company. These part-time positions are hourly positions and do not include benefits. She has managed to reduce her living expenses in order to live on this income, but because of her knee injury, she is going to be out of work for up to 12 weeks. This is why she needs our help.
Most of her medical bills will be covered by her Medicare supplement. The financial help she needs is for the medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, the medical equipment cost, and loss of income while she is unable to work. She will need to raise $10,000.
