Help Joe Represent Australia

Donation protected
I have only ever had two dreams in life. The first has always been to play in the AFL. The second was to represent Australia in sport. I remember watching the 1996 summer Olympics held in Atlanta. I wanted to be like Kieren Perkins and Cathy Freeman wearing the green and gold, representing some of the best attributes an Australian could. This dream was not to be. The older I became, the less I dreamt. And in 2009, my life and the lives of those around me changed forever.

After sustaining a spinal cord injury, life suddenly seemed grey. Almost like the colour had been drained from the world. My dream of wearing the green and gold couldn’t have been further from my mind. After ongoing mental health issues, I decided that it was too hard to continue trying. I planned a way to end the suffering. But fate had another plan for me. I was introduced to the sport of para rowing. The community was amazing, the competition fierce and the feeling of rowing away from a wheelchair was… liberating.

Sport saved my life and reignited a passion inside me that burns brighter than ever.

It is with great pleasure and happiness that I announce that I have been selected in the inaugural Australian Para Ice Hockey team. The team will compete in Europe this November at the International Paralympic Committee’s World Para Ice Hockey World Championships (Pool C).

What is para ice hockey you ask? Check out this link to find out more! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpV3UKzJ-WQ

The Australian Paralympic Committee’s aim is to have my team work towards qualifying for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic games.

Words cannot express how much this means to me. But I need your help. I am aiming to raise $7000 to make my dream a reality. Before I even contemplate boarding the plane to head to Europe, I need to purchase specialised equipment such as a sled, sticks and protective gear. I also will be travelling to Melbourne on a weekly basis to train with part of the team to learn as much as I can before the upcoming tournament. Accommodation costs, transport, off ice training costs… It all adds up.

Any small amount will mean the world to me. Regardless of whether it is $1 or $20, your help will allow me to realise a childhood dream.

I look forward to the challenge ahead of me and I cannot thank you enough for your time and support.

Thank you,

Joe.
