Help Jeffrey Contreras

Donation protected
On Saturday, June 28th, Number Five School student Jeffrey Contreras was hit by a car while crossing Route 878 with his mother and sister. He is currently at LIJ in very serious condition. Please consider making a donation to help Jeffrey and his family during this very difficult time.

Please read the following message from Number Five School principal Rina Beach.

Jeffrey Contreras, a second grader in Mrs. Soule’s class this past year, was hit by a car on 878 on Friday night, 6/30/14. Jeffrey suffered multiple injuries including two broken legs, a broken arm and a displaced clavicle. He had swelling on his brain; therefore, he had brain surgery to relieve the pressure. They placed a shunt in his head after removing a piece of his skull. The skull was placed in his groin area so that it could bereplaced in his head eventually. He also had surgery on his leg. Jeffrey is in bad condition but he has the best care at the Cohen’s Medical Center for Children at LIJ. He is in the ICU where he receives around-the-clock care. Many of the Number Five staff visited and we do see slight improvement due to all of our prayers. The shunt has been removed. He has a long recovery ahead. His mom has been staying in the hospital with him.

You can imagine how difficult this situation is as a parent. In addition, this family speaks little English and is struggling financially. The family does not drive nor own a car. Family and friends have been helping when they can. Dad missed work and has had to return. Robin Cutler met with the hospital social worker and Vicky Loweree has reached out to personal friends who are associated with the medical center for possible assistance.

The Lawrence staff has always been so generous to our needy families and we call on you again to give what you can. Every little bit helps. Most importantly, please keep the family in your prayers.
