Our dear friend Sarah-Jane (SunJay) Owen is being challenged to the core of her warrior spirit. So many of you know SunJay as an artist, healer, teacher and Shaman. She has given so much to others and now she needs our help, as she is facing numerous serious health issues.
What happened to her?
A series of unfortunate dental procedures has resulted in the removal of all SunJay's teeth—with terrible complications. She tried dentures but couldn't eat, and now she is physically wasting away. She's had to blend her food for over a year.
Various dental providers have given her misguided information and very poor dental work.
It is imperative that SunJay get a full restoration of her mouth and teeth, so she can eat normally and rebuild her health. The stress and exhaustion of this ordeal brought on a case of Shingles. Even more serious (and painful), SunJay was diagnosed two years ago with bone-on-bone in both hips with a recommendation for double hip replacement! Of course, that can't be done until her dental issues are resolved. So SunJay's health is really suffering from all this.
The Recommended Treatment
The only way to remedy this is to have full-mouth restoration dental implants—an 18-month-long series of dental surgeries. She is now in good hands at USC School of Dentistry, where they are waiting for her to completely heal from the shingles before they begin.
Why Funds Are Needed & How Your Donation Will Help
SunJay has been working full-time as a professor at the Fashion Institute for over 25 years. With her extreme hip pain, she is now struggling with the long work hours and will have to cut back on classes. This means less pay. Also, through all the dental surgeries it will be hard for her to work. Sadly, these kinds of dental procedures are all out-of-pocket. It's all extraordinarily expensive and usually costs between $65,000 to $100,000, She found that through a dental school it was $20,000 cheaper!
