Every once in awhile you witness the life of a man who helped others, not just on occasion, but every day, because thinking of others was who he was.
Harold (Hal) Schindler was always the first person to jump in and help out someone in need. Was your car dead on the side of the road? He'll be right there with a trailer to tow it home. Was your faucet leaking? Be right over. Need your house fixed? He would squeeze you into his schedule.
As a contractor, his comittment to quality and treating people right kept customers coming back for more, and turned almost all of them into long-term friends.
Unfortunately, all of that time spent helping others meant that when he did had time to work on finishing his own home, someone else's problems always seemed more pressing. So 40 years after starting to remodel his own home, it still wasn't finished when he passed away.
When his appendix burst 8 years ago and they found the cancer, the doctors said he had less than a year to live. But his wife Sue refused to accept that and spent the next 8 years researching alternative treatments that helped keep the cancer in check until their money ran out.
We are trying to raise enough money to finally finish the work on the house that he started so many years ago.
