Help Daddy O Fight The Big C
Donation protected
Hello, we are the Guiraos and you can help our daddy fight lung cancer.
Meet our Daddy
Our Daddy, Orlando “Orly” Guirao, is a loving father (to us and his dogs) and grandpa. He worked so hard to give us, his family, a better life. He is also a relentless and committed journalist. For us, he is a true hero.
Last August 2018, Daddy was diagnosed with stage four, lung cancer. He underwent thoracentesis to drain excess water from his lungs (which is one of the culprits for his difficulty in breathing), and radiotherapy sessions to shrink the tumor. He is also scheduled for chemotherapy to control the symptoms of cancer, and was advised to undergo immunotherapy, a breakthrough medical intervention that uses the patient’s body to fight off cancer cells.
Daddy is facing the biggest challenge of his life - perhaps, even bigger than the mountains he climbed just to interview a rebel priest fighting for the rights of the indigenous people.
Daddy is a fearless man but now I can see in his eyes that he is afraid; perhaps scared to leave us or scared of not giving a fight. This is why we want to continue this battle with him and we hope you can join us, too.
On Choosing to Crowdfund
Since daddy’s diagnosis last month, we have already pooled all our resources as a family and have been mobilizing all available monetary help out there—relatives, loans, government assistance. But we are afraid even all of these may not be enough.
We decided to take the crowdfunding route if only to exhaust all financial options. We are hoping that we can count on the generosity of individuals who can help our daddy fight cancer.
How You Can Help
We are still awaiting results of Daddy’s EGFR (series of tests on his liver, blood, etc.) to determine the treatment plan, which will include oral chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The oral chemotherapy drug costs between P90,000-P120,000 every month, while immunotherapy is at P150,000 per session. We have yet to determine the number of cycles needed for each treatment, but minimum would be three to five months. These are the real number and it will be really tough for our family to come up with these amounts for Daddy’s treatment.
But we are not giving up. We want to give Daddy the best possible treatment out there, until the cancer is beaten, until the fight is over.
We hope you could consider making a donation, no matter the amount and would also appreciate if you can help us share this campaign on social media. More importantly, we ask for your prayers for our Daddy. We love him very, very much and we hope to have more time with him.
