Help Cuban Women Entrepreneurs Come to the USA
Deyni Terry Abreau is the Director of Barbara's Power, a small business for women, mostly of Afro descendency of all ages. This group of entrepreneurs produces African inspired clothing out of recycled materials.
The purpose of the company is to help other entrepreneurs earn an income for marginalized women, to empower women and to reclaim the image of the black woman as beautiful and powerful. In Cuba, racial discrimination is a major problem for Afro-descendants. One way it manifests itself is by the generalized notion exhibited by companies, and the media is that only white women with European features who are considered beautiful. In general, the society has a long way to go in accepting the Afro-Cuban culture, people and their rights and cultural traditions. This company is combating stereotypes so that the new generation can be proud of their heritage and also make a profit on its clear fashion. It is the organization's first effort to create African-inspired Afro-Cuban clothing and in Cuba in general. Then these costumes are presented in fashion shows that include women of all ages.
Deyni is a high profile lawyer in Cuba. Her day job is to work as counsel for the housing department in Havana. At night she forms part of the Alliance for Racial Unity that defends in a pro bono fashion victims of discrimination.
The Barbara's Power Project arose from the need to promote Afro-Cuban beauty and culture. Deyni is a renaissance woman in that she is also a poet, writer, and performer. You may be wondering why do this group of entrepreneurs need your support?! Well, they have been invited by the National Black Chamber of Commerce's 25th Silver Anniversary Conference, this coming July 26-29, 2017 here in Washington, D. C .
The convention is their annual meeting of camera executives, corporate partners, government representatives and Fortune 500 companies. They are very happy to learn more about how they can include Cuban constituents, learning from their general disposition. They have invited them and their businesses in the Cuban community to attend. The National Black Chamber of Commerce Convention number 25 will be held at various locations in Washington and Northern Virginia.
The Black Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to empowering and sustaining Afro-American communities through entrepreneurship and capitalist activity within the United States and through interaction with the black diaspora. Also, to suggest improved policy and awareness of the issue that will benefit the situation of black entrepreneurs at the international level.
Your financial support will help with the consular services, travel, lodging, and meals during their stay in the United States.
