Fight Back Against Nursing Home Neglect

Donation protected
Our health is something we have no control over. In an instant we can go from being completely healthy to bedridden in hospital, it’s a very scary thought.
Arthurine
It’s because of this that we all need to look out for each other where possible and that’s why it’s important to bring Arthurine’s story to you

Unfortunately for Arthurine, she was taken ill in April of 2019 at 81 years old. She was found in her apartment, incoherent and so weak that she couldn’t even lift her head.
When rushed to hospital, Arthurine was diagnosed with dangerously low blood pressure and mild kidney failure. Subsequently, she needed a blood transfusion and was bedridden for six weeks. She needed to undergo rehabilitation, struggling to get in and out of bed, feed herself, go to the bathroom and wash.

Medicare covered the health costs for Arthurine for a short while but her rehabilitation treatment fees were cut. The shocking reason for this, wait for it, ‘a lack of hope in her’. Arthurine, a living, breathing, respected, valued member of the community, was given up on by the ‘professionals

It Gets Worse
I would love to say the situation got better from here, but it didn’t. Money is business I’m afraid. There was no shaking the fact that these people who were entrusted to see to Arthurine’s  well being, were just leaving her to die without the necessary funding for rehabilitation

We believed hope had come in the form of Medicaid. Approving a rehabilitation plan for Arthurine in exchange for her entire income, life insurance, pension and social security, leaving her with $30 per month living salary

Shameful
It’s a shame that somebody who served 20 years in the medical field herself, who lived to care for other people, cannot enjoy her golden years.
As if Arthurine’s story couldn’t get any more tragic, there’s something else. The Medicaid funded facility is quite frankly, disgusting

From being left in her wheelchair for hours on end and not being bathed to being left covered in her own urine, Arthurine has been humiliated by those responsible for her care. Think of the elderly in your family or social circles, imagine how heartbreaking it would be if they were in a similar position

Complaints are ignored by the facility and so far Arthurine has suffered in silence, painstakingly. Today, we hope we can change that and put a smile back on Arthurine’s face.

Donate Today
Your generous donation will be used to help Arthurine move to an assisted living facility called ‘Senior Suites of Central Station’ in Chicago, which costs $3000 a month.

Thankfully then, Arthurine can finally see the back of Medicaid and should hopefully be able to pay a portion of the rent with her own money. Whether you choose to donate $1 or $100, your donation is going a long way to making Athurine’s life so much better and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

You have no idea what this will mean to Arthurine, we just hope there’s a positive conclusion to her story! Thank you for reading.
