HEARTS WITH THE HARDYs
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with Roland and Delores Hardy of Pitman, NJ who were recently both diagnosed with prostate cancer and leukemia, respectively.  This campaign is being established by a small team of friends and family members to generate the funds to provide financial support for medical and living expenses as they simultaneously battle their cancer diagnoses.

WHO ARE ROLAND AND DELORES HARDY?
Roland and Delores Hardy are high school sweethearts from North Woodbury, NJ.  They both attended the University of Delaware between 1970 and 1976. Roland earned his BA in History in 1974, and then obtained his juris doctorate from the University of Santa Clara, California. After earning his law degree, he returned to his roots in South Jersey to establish his law practice. Delores, better known as "Sissy," matriculated from the UD with a major in Criminal Justice in 1976. Strongly compassionate and committed to helping others, she began a career of public service and was eventually selected to be the Director of the Gloucester County Office of Disability Services in her home state of New Jersey.  More recently she has served her community as a substitute teacher.

Roland and Sissy wed in August of 1977, and for more than forty years of marriage the Hardys have always lived modestly, dedicating their lives to their children (Ayanna & Roland Jr.) and to serving their church and community. When many would be looking forward to becoming empty nesters, Roland and Sissy welcomed the opportunity to assume primary responsibility for raising their granddaughter, Jailah!

IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. "- Romans 8:28 ESV

Through the years, the Hardys have weathered more than one medical emergency. In 2010, Roland was hospitalized with a life-threatening case of pancreatitis. Prayers were answered, and he recovered, but health concerns forced him to downsize his work responsibilities. Not one to consider retirement, Roland continued to use his God-given gifts to provide pro bono services to a variety of churches and not-for-profit organizations.

In September 2017, Roland was hospitalized once again with serious side effects of diabetes and high blood pressure. Further testing uncovered prostate cancer and he was scheduled for surgery in early December 2017.  As Thanksgiving approached, Sissy began to feel tired and listless.  With her symptoms persisting, she met with her doctor who immediately admitted her to the hospital and began a series of tests. By the beginning of December, Sissy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She is currently at Thomas Jefferson Hospital being treated with chemotherapy and radiation; and will remain in the hospital under observation until late January.  Meanwhile, Roland’s prostate surgery has been delayed and is currently scheduled for January 23, 2018.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Struggling with the double diagnosis of prostate cancer and leukemia, creates a substantial physical, emotional and financial hardship. Those of us who know Roland and Sissy are not surprised by their first request: "PLEASE PRAY!"

"And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up." James 5:15-16 ESV

Secondly, financial donations can be made through this GoFundMe campaign.  Realizing the exorbitant cost of health care, our goal is to raise at least $10,000!   While we will keep the page up indefinitely, we know that financial obligations start to accumulate immediately and are hoping that Roland and Sissy will be able to begin to make withdrawals no later than January 31, 2018.  We encourage you to donate as soon as possible.

We are thankful for our friends’ demonstration of faith through difficult situations. Allow us to "Thank You" in advance for your support of this effort.

 God Bless You!
