Fund-For-Heart-Transplant

For the past nine years Priya (Esther Priyadarsini) has been suffering from heart disease. Every day she travels several hours to get to work, through the heat and traffic of Hyderabad one of India’s fastest growing cities, and the stress continues to build adding pressure on her already weak heart. She was on medications throughout the years.  Her condition turned for the worse in 2012; and doctors implanted AICD (Automated Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator – similar to Pacemaker). It’s hard to see how she suffers especially as a young woman at 40 with so much more life left to enjoy. But since June 2017, she had difficulty in breathing as the implant is unfortunately not helping, and doctors discovered that her heart has enlarged which has affected its ability to pump blood through the body. Her lungs are weak and she struggles to breath. Recently she lost her job as a result of these complications.

Her only choice now is a heart transplant – an extreme measure that comes with extreme costs. In India medical care is a fraction of the cost we’re used to in the US, but for Priya it’s a fortune that she cannot afford. For $40,000 USD she can have a new chance at a healthy active life. We’re asking for your help, any amount of donation that can help her afford this surgery. We all have and know relatives and loved ones who have suffered from heart disease, but with your donation of any amount – you can make a lifesaving impact today by helping Priya get her surgery within 6 months, as recommended by the doctors.

Thank you for getting to know Priya and THANK you for your support and generosity!

Who, Why and How
I’am Samuel Bhaktul, Priya’s uncle and the creator of the “Heart For Priya” campaign. I grew up in a small village couple of hundred miles from Hyderabad, India. I met Priya’s father – my wife’s brother - when I got married over 40 years ago. Coming from modest means, my dream after university was to go to America and pursue my career in Computer Engineering. When I shared my dream with my family and started my journey to America, it was Priya’s father who gave me my first $100 bill before I boarded my flight. It was this money that helped me get through my first night in a new country. I am the first one in our families to make it to the USA.

Our family is now facing another first, the first case of heart transplant. When we heard about our niece Priya’s condition earlier this year, we decided to do our best to help her with the expenses for the surgery. As I was researching how to support her, I noticed that GoFundMe.com does not have a payment partner in India for her to start the campaign herself. So I decided to set up this campaign on her behalf, to first withdraw funds from GoFundMe.com into my dedicated account here in the US. Then I’ll regularly send all the money directly to Priya’s account in India using the Citibank Global Transfer service with no additional fees. Priya will use 100% of the money received to pay all the expenses for the surgery.

Sometimes I think about how that $100 bill from Priya’s father some 30+ years ago can go back many fold through this campaign! With your generosity you can help save young Priya’s life. Thank you!
