Haegan’s Hope is working to get Haegan Troutman, age 3, a diabetic alert dog or DAD. DAD’s are essential in diabetic care.
Description
On August 5, 2014, Haegan, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes, a genetic condition that affects his body’s ability to process sugar. Haegan and his family have a long journey ahead of them.
Haegan and his family are working to have a Diabetic Alert Dog or DAD trained to help him on his journey. DAD’s are trained for a specific child to be sensitive to the child’s blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels are too low for safety, the dog alerts the child and the family. This helps prevent serious complications. Most importantly, the dog is on alert during the night while the family sleeps, which helps parents and children rest in safety.
DAD’s smell trouble before it strikes. DAD’s are man’s best friend times 1,000! Having a DAD will help Haegan stay safe, give him a sense of security as he copes with diabetes, and provide a sense of balance for his family as they work to care for him. DAD’s are helpful in achieving and maintaining independent lifestyles for people with diabetes.

Because of their special training DAD’s are expensive and Haegan needs your help getting his very own DAD to make his journey through life with Type I Diabetes a bit safer and easier. Haegan is more than just a kid with diabetes - Haegan loves watching Bubble Guppies, his favorite movies are Finding Nemo and Despicable Me. When Haegan isn’t playing baseball he’s jumping on his trampoline and riding his four-wheeler. His family hopes that he’ll be able to continue with all the things he loves in a safe and confident way and a DAD will help!
