HOPEC Orphanage DIG THE WELL
Donation protected
Since 2015 we have been fundraising for a project that is situated in Umalila region of Tanzania. The orphanage officially opened in 2016 and then the corresponding school in 2017. While a lot of work has been completed, there is still a lot more to be done. The biggest need at the moment for the project is to have a good source of clean drinking water. In the last year, some work has been made to relieve the situation. Some water tanks were put underground to capture rain fall. Also an attempt was made to dig a well by hand, but they could not go deep enough to get down to the water table.
There are currently thirty orphans in the orphanage and other children also come from the local villages to attend the school. We hope that when the full project is complete that it will be able to house around 120 orphans. So we are beginning a campaign to raise the extra funds needed in order to get in the machinery to site to dig the well.
Stage one is to raise the first €700 and to get a water survey done. This is now complete, and it has been recommended that we will need to drill to a depth of 95 metres, which will cost €50 euro per metre.
