Grit Factor Documentary

Dear friends, family, and fellow community,

We are beside ourselves in disbelief that we could already be here. What started as a question turned into a small idea and has flourished into a dream project which, with your help, will take us across the globe.

 
The Grit Factor's mission is to cultivate the human spirit through stories of resilience and grit.

This summer, our team will journey across the globe on our World Tour 2018 to interview and document people with stories of resilience.

 
WHO WE ARE:

At our core, we are a group of students, researching resilience, where it comes from and how we can train it. Our goal is that this project would go beyond the four walls of our classrooms. Imagine what it would look like if every individual had the resilience needed to strategically navigate adversity and triumph through it.  


WHY DOES THIS MATTER:

It matters because people matter. Every individual and community faces their own battle.  Everywhere we look there are gruesome events that rock us to the core. Imagine what it would look like for every individual, every group, company, non-profit, student, to be empowered with the resilience and grit necessary to navigate the adversity, no matter how big it is.

By understanding where resiliency comes from and how to train it, we can begin to make a difference in the lives of individuals. Empowering people with the tools to face adversity and persevere is crucial for the times we live in. As individuals, we may not have the power to change the world, but we do have the power change the world of an individual. That is what this project is all about; giving people the tools to face adversity and triumph victoriously In turn, continuing to make a difference in the world, one by one.

This could all be drastically changed by the answer to one simple question: WHERE DOES RESILIENCE COME FROM?

 
WHY A DOCUMENTARY:

There is no greater power than the power of the human story. Testimony in Greek means "to do again". By having real people share real stories, we strive to instill hope and show others they can too, do it. We believe the most effective way of reaching the widest audience and making the largest difference is through digital media.

 
WHY A WORLD TOUR:

Last summer we had the opportunity to travel across the U.S. asking the same question: where does resilience come from and how have these individuals acquired it. To take this study to the next level we are going to be traveling around the world to reach people of different backgrounds, cultures and experiences. By finding out what the underlying themes of resilience are, we will gain a thorough understanding of what resilience is to better train a generation ready to make a difference Here are some of the incredible people we interviewed this summer.

LETTER FROM OUR CHIEF IMAGINEER

As I hiked up the Wat Phra That Doi Mountain in Chiang Mai, Thailand after a long week of work, my colleague began to sob. We were almost at the top of the mountain but she could no longer contain her emotions. Through her sobs she uttered, “Last night my country was overtaken by a military group. I have no home to go back to.” 

Later that evening I asked her, "What will you do? Stay here?" She quickly proclaimed, "No! I will go home and fight for what is right."

It was this fortitude, this tenacity, this passion to keep going even in the midst of the difficult circumstances that inspired this project. Stories like this are the heart of The Grit Factor.

The Grit Factor has become an official non-profit with a team of 10 dedicated volunteers and one mission: to cultivate the human spirit through stories of resilience and grit. 

This is a project about people and the will to keep moving forward.
