Greg Akerman Scholarship Fund

Greg Akerman was a talented athlete that lived to play competitive sports. In high school he played football and baseball, but baseball was his favorite. On the eve of his graduation he received a phone call informing him that he had been picked up in the draft by the New York Mets. Sadly, Greg never got to live his dream as he was killed in a car accident just three days after graduating from BBCHS. We adopted this athletic scholarship in his honor to assist other young student athletes with some of the finances that come with furthering their education.

The Greg Akerman Athletic Scholarship began 28 years ago and has been awarded to 32 deserving young men and women. There are two plaques on the walls at BBCHS and Bishop McNamara, that we’d like to see completed. In order to continue funding the scholarship, we are having a fundraiser on October 14th, 2017 at Smitty’s Bar in Kankakee, IL. If you are unable to make it to the fundraiser and would like to contribute financially it is greatly appreciated.
