Izella is a 6 year old little girl who is living with Cerebral Palsy. She was diagnosed 5 years ago and has been working hard to battle her disability. With the help of several doctors, therapist and a supportive family she continues to fight to live a fulfilling childhood.
She has since been diagnosed with Epilepsy and Scoliosis. They have tried the use of several different castings and orthotics which has proven only temporary. She has also undergone several attempts of Botox treatments to reduce the spasticity in her legs and arms. With Botox there are risks which include negative reactions and future muscle weakness. With each treatment she has become more sensitive and her body is reacting negatively. Because of the unsuccessful treatments she is hoping to try for her last option, which is a rare surgery that could potentially give her fewer medical procedures and a vast improvement of physical abilities.
This surgery will help to minimize the progression of her scoliosis and reduce her risk of needing a rod placed in her spine or becoming wheel chair bound. The procedure is called SPML and is only performed by two different doctors in the US. There are few candidates who would qualify and benefit from this surgery and she was fortunate enough to be chosen! Unfortunately, the procedure costs a large amount out of pocket and is daunting to her parents.
We are asking for any help to try and grant this wish for Izella's Christmas! There would be no better gift than mobility!
