We are the Goforth family: Matt (32 yo), Jean (29 yo), Alex (7 yo), Emma (2 yo), and Malachi (almost 9 months). My husband, Matt, is a Registered Nurse, and I'm a stay at home mom to our three children, one with special needs.
This past year, 2014, has been very difficult for us in dealing with the complications of a high risk pregnancy, countless doctor and specialists visits, and our youngest finally being diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Jacobsen Syndrome (11q deletion disorder), as well as Congestive Heart Failure due to a Ventricular Septal Defect (Congenital Heart Disease), and a congenital amputation of the left arm .
Nearing the end of the year, Matt started a new job, which would have provided benefits for our entire family (especially Malachi, who needed to have open heart surgery). However, at the end of his orientation period he was diagnosed with cancer (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia), requiring chemotherapy (which has affected his vision) and weeks of hospital stay, as well as continuing follow-up oncology visits and hospital stays throughout the first half of the new year, 2015, resulting in unforeseen absence from work.
While Malachi continues to recover from his open heart surgery, and Matt seems to be responding to chemotherapy, numerous bills keep coming in faster than we can keep up with them. At this point we have incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, most of which are out of pocket expenses.
We would be extremely grateful for any donations, big or small, because every little bit helps. We would also appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we try to make it through these difficult times.
