My name is Godfrey. I am a boxer on a mission.

My background

I was born in the jungle of northern Uganda.  I lived in a mud hut. No electricity, no toilet, no school.  There was war all around me…my parents left.  Life was tough.  But there was ONE thing I had.




My uncles boxed.  My father boxed and even went to the Olympics.  And from the age of 3, they all taught me how to box, hoping it would give me a better life. But living in Uganda wasn’t easy. I got caught up in the civil war and ended-up a child soldier at 12.  I witnessed horrors that no child, no person should ever see. 



Three years later, I narrowly escaped the army, and found myself living on the streets of Kampala.  It was worse than being a child soldier.  I was penniless and alone. Disease was everywhere. Violence was constant.  I saw people murdered right in front of me.  But, I had something. I knew in my heart boxing could save me. So somehow I made it out alive, and today I’m living in Toronto, Canada.

My Mission… My Dream

I am on a mission to be a World Champion professional Boxer. 

I am 26 years old and I have fought 109 times as an amateur (my record is 102-7). I am 5’5” and fight at 118 lbs.  My pro boxing career is just starting, and the next 12 months are of key importance. Most of the best fighters in my weight class are in the US and South Asia. It takes money to train professionally. It takes money to go and fight those guys.



Every single day I am in the gym, no matter what.  Both in Toronto and in Niagara Falls.  I also work as a carpenter’s apprentice and I go to school. For the first time in my life I am learning to read and write!

It’s my dream eventually to return to Kampala and give the street kids living there new opportunities and hope for a better life.  This is my Round 13: To give back.

I need funds to pay for; training, proper nutrition, and travel.  I have a world-class trainer (Chris Johnson – Olympic Boxing Bronze Medallist) and a team that is helping me.   They believe in me, I hope you will too.
