Go The Extra Mile

Donation protected
On Sunday 21st June, St. Johns GAA and Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA will compete in a charity race to help raise essential funds for the Sligo Cancer Support Centre, and they are looking for all club members to #GoTheExtraMile. Between 10am and 10pm, we're asking all club members, players and supporters to walk, run or crawl as far as you can.

At the end of the 12-hour period, all individual distances will be added up to see which club covered the most. It's important that we adhere to the guidelines set out by the HSE, so remember to keep the distance between you and your friends!

The Sligo Cancer Support Centre does incredible work, not just in our two parishes, but all over the North West. We're bringing our clubs together to support them as best we can.

No distance is too small and every little helps, so we encourage all club members young and old to get out on June 21st, stick on your club jerseys and don't forget to donate.

The fundraiser itself was organised mainly by Paul McNamara and Brian McGowan from St. Johns GAA, with the help from Sean Power and Niall Canning from Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA. The Sligo Cancer Support Centre was chosen as our beneficiary due to the amount of people cancer can affect, none more so than some of the aforementioned organisers. We felt that, with Sligo Cancer Support Centre receiving only 20% of their income from government grants, they were the perfect choice. The funds raised will be spent on delivering crucial support to those who's lives have been affected by cancer. Since COVID-19 has put a halt on people attending the centre in Sligo, the centre has began delivering counselling sessions to it's members using apps such as Zoom. The amount of people using the centres services hasn't changed since COVID began, however the amount of money they have received from funding has. Therefore, this fundraiser will help the Centre to get back on it's feet when it's doors open again. The funds themselves will be withdraw directly to the beneficiary, with both GAA clubs attending a small event on Friday the 26th of June whereby they will hand over the cheque.
