As we physically distance ourselves and socially connect with the help of technology, there are ways we can spread hope and positivity - not the virus.
We're Tanise and Derrick Love, a nonprofit and tech guru couple working and living in Charlotte. After hearing about displaced families struggling to pay for motel and extended stay hotels, our hearts broke. That’s why my husband and I created a campaign to spread positivity and hopefully create even a small amount of change for families in this city we love. In 72 short hours, we have raised enough funds to prevent 7 people from becoming homeless. But there's more work to be done!

It’s simple really. There are three ways to get involved, and everyone can do something.
Give: We’re encouraging people to give what they can, with all funds going to purchase hotel stays for those in need. We’ve established a GoFundMe page for this effort, as the pandemic swept in quickly, so our response needed to be equally swift. Your donation will go directly to hotel properties to keep families housed and to support local efforts led by the United Way, Foundation for the Carolinas, and Crisis Assistance Ministry. Bonus - we're offering free graphic and web design services to donors.
Buy: Like many, we’re encouraging anyone who can to support local businesses through small purchases and gift cards Shop local, and share on social media your excitement about your purchases. It encourages others in your circle to do the same. This will help other small business owners keep the lights on so they can rebound once the crisis passes.
Hi: Unable to financially support people in our community? We get it, times are hard and money is tight with many struggling to find enough work during this time. Even you, can do something to support the community. Use the power of social media to connect with your neighbors. Take a picture, tag a friend or business and spread joy.
With any of the social efforts, we ask that you tag @GiveBuyHi or use the hashtag #givebuyhi so we can join you in giving hope and supporting our community.
