Gary Culbert's Emergency
Donation protected
On the night of Sept 13, my son Gary was working in the garage. He responded to an emergency situation at their neighbor's home. Their 17 yr old daughter was home alone working on a home economics project. She was in the process of frying potatos when the pot of oil erupted into flames, as she was inexperianced and had the burner on high. She was home alone and unsure what to do. By the time the daughter sought help from my son, the fire was out of control and ready to take over the kitchen. My son responded to her plea of help since her parents were not home. The burner could not be turned off because the knobs were behind the fire. In the process of removing the flaming pot from the hot burner, the fire whooshed back causing second and third degree burns to the face, both arms and both legs. The fire department evaluated him and called an ambulance and transported my son to St Elizabeth burn center where he received the best care there is in the state of Nebraska. He spent 4 days in the burn center. He has been recovering and healing for 3 weeks. On Oct 9, 2 areas were treated with skin graphting, using the scalp as donor skin. He will be recoving fom this surgery for the following 2-3 weeks. Due to the nature of this accident, the home owners policy is refusing assistance from the liability portion of the policy since the owner of the home (the Insured) was not negilent in any way. The home is occupied by renters who did not hold a renters insurance policy. If they would have had renter's insurance, this policy would have covered medical and additional expenses. My son does have health insurance, but there is a very high deductible. We are seeking modest donations to help with medical care and normal bills and expences. I was thinking of something we could do to help out him and his family. Whatever anyone is able to share with him is greatly appriciated. I know they will appriciate it for even small immediate finances or anything the insurance won't cover on the hospital bill.
