Funeral Expenses for Jonathan

Celebration of Life for Jonathan “Joey” Graneta

To those who knew Jonathan he was outgoing, fun, and a very opinionated person. He was a great father, son, brother, cousin and friend to most. He loved everything Starwars or Marvel Comic. He’d enjoy most of his time focused on being the best father to his son JJ. They we’re inseparable!

On the early morning of December 26th, 2017 Jonathan was found unresponsive on the floor by his son JJ and wife Olivia. He then was rushed to the nearest emergency room to try to revive him. By then Jonathan’s family members were contacted to go to the hospital. Jonathan’s sister Jennifer and Mother Marcelina were the first to arrive. Soon after his wife, father and other family members followed. The condition that they saw him in didn’t looked good. He was intubated, hooked up to multiple I.V. lines, heart monitor and being given medications to keep him stable from what looks like he was having uncontrollable seizures. All while the Medical Team is trying to figure out what caused him to go unresponsive. A CT scan was ordered “stat” to see if his brain was being affected. We were then given the devastating news that he was suffering from a massive internal brain bleed to the left side and swelling was so severe. They ruled out that it wasn’t an aneurism. Soon after, he was transferred to the ICU unit at St Mary’s Hospital. We were told that a group of specialized Doctors; Neurologist, Neurosurgeon and Internalmedicine will meet with us to further update us on the condition of Jonathan.

We once again were given more bad news, the Medical Doctors said with the amount of medicine given to help contain the swelling, help his blood pressure to go down and CT scans being done shows that the brain bleed progression and swelling was continuing at a fast rate. That he was slowly detoriating. It’s causing his brain to shift downwards to his brain stem which was constricting the lack of oxygen/blood flow to his brain. His heart was overworking itself. It was so severe that his quality of life was very poor. He is only given a few hours or less than a few days to live. We then asked for further testing and a 2nd opinion to confirm that maybe we’d have hopes for some type of survival or possible operation to help reduce the swelling and stop the bleeding.

It took quite some time but all results came back and the other set of Neurologist, Neurosurgeons and Internal medicine Doctors stated at this point there is no possible way to operate on Him. It’d do more damage than fix him, it could lead to instant death. There was no other way around it. Given the severity of the brain bleed and swelling and the location of the bleeding. So they suggested that we may consider changing his “code status” DNR and keep him as comfortable and not to overwork his body.

As we requested to do another round of CT scans, EEG and perfusion imaging tests to give us a bit of hope. The outcome was still the same but it worsened as time passed by. At this point his body/brain was slowly giving up, he was very unstable. He was medically declared “Brain Dead” and the only thing keeping his heart beating is the air ventilator. We were just working on His time to when his body will finally give up.

We were advised to  gather the closes family members and friends to come visit, since we didn’t know when he’ll come to pass.

While, it came as a shock to all of us that something like this would happen so tragic to Jonathan. He appeared relatively healthy, active and full of joy around family and friends. On Christmas Day he enjoyed eating tamales and video chatted with family. Jonathan and his wife was planning the upcoming Birthday Celebration of their son JJ (12/30/2017) , that was the last time we all spoke or seen him.  He didn’t have the perfect life but he managed to keep on the straight and narrow. That we didn’t even know he has been sick for some time.

So, as a family we all weren’t prepared for something like this since Jonathan was still considered young. At 38, he passed away at 10:45am on Dec. 28th, 2017. He is survived by his Wife, Son, his siblings Jr, Jennifer, John Dale, his Father Joselito Sr, Mother Marcelina and Grandmother Leonila. We are all lost for words and still at shock.

The main purpose of this donation page is to help the family raise the funds for the Funeral Expenses, since we weren’t prepared for something like this to happen. We kindly ask anyone that would be interested in making a donation, nothing too small or big is greatly appreciated. All proceeds would be used to help fulfill the Funeral Expenses.

Please Share this gofundMe Page to help Jonathan’s family reach their goal of $9,000.

On, behalf of Jonathan’s loved ones were sadden by this tragic incident. We are overwhelmed with the amount of love and support shown to all of us.

Thank You!!
