First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read the story behind this GoFundMe account. Partnering with our family and friends we have created this GoFundMe account for our Dad, Francisco Cuevas.
On Nov. 15, 2017, Dad was on a job site helping some of his workers install Christmas lights on a tall evergreen tree. During this job, he fell off a 10 foot ladder onto a concrete driveway. Dad was rushed by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Central hospital in Lakewood, CO where doctors determined immeasurable damage to his spinal cord and the need for immediate surgery. Steel rods were placed to stabilize the spinal damage. The doctors spoke with our family and informed us that there was a 1% chance of our dad ever being able to walk again, this was absolutely devastating to us. In addition, Dad’s skull was opened and required 8 staples.
Our Dad will need extensive physical therapy in an attempt to regain sensitivity and movement of his lower extremities and his back. We are hoping to get our Dad the help he needs, we have looked into well-known rehabilitation hospitals, such as Craig Rehab Hospital in Denver, Colorado. However, we have found that the price of care our Dad requires is far out of our reach.
As you may imagine, our situation is urgent….the need is immediate! We are afraid that the longer our Dad remains without the physical therapy and the medical attention he needs, the lower his chances are of making the best recovery. Medical bills have already begun to build up and so have all of our own bills.
Our family is composed of Mom, Dad and 4 younger siblings. We will also need your help to get back on our feet, as the roles in our home will clearly shift. Without our Dad being able to support us as he has throughout our life, we are left with a whole lot of responsibility to pick up on, housing and overall living expenses.
Through this GoFundMe account, the generous collaboration of family, friends and good Samaritans will help us acquire the necessary rehab services for our Dad. As well as to pay all medical bills that will be coming our way during what is expected to be a very prolonged recovery process.
We have always seen our Dad as a hardworking man, a great role model and the backbone of our family. We can’t express how much we appreciate any and all donations that come our way through this GoFundMe website. Our Dad is loved by everyone who knows him; his warm smile always makes our days better.
