Promoting the growth of women in leadership positions is critical to the success of any modern society and Female Coaches Advocacy is working to affect real change in the number of women who are coaching soccer in the United States.
The mission of FCAd, to promote greater participation by women as coaches at all levels of soccer in the United States, has been met with great enthusiasm by fellow coaches, women in sport, and individuals of influence within the soccer world. FCAd’s work has been featured in online magazines and I have been invited to share my work at gatherings of women coaches.
In the near future, FCAd will be continuing comprehensive research about how women participate as soccer coaches in the US as well as moving into the practical realm by introducing programming at the youth club level. Some of these initiatives include teaming college programs and local clubs to create pathways that can lead into coaching once players are done with their college playing days, creating a mentoring program to help current women coaches stay in the game, and hosting local coaching education programs for beginning coaches. These three programs address key areas that limit women’s involvement as coaches: a lack of knowledge about how to enter the coaching world, a lack of support when coaching challenges arise, and a lack of participation stemming from feeling intimidated by tackling a coaching role.
All of these programs will greatly benefit from receiving adequate funding. A gift of any amount is generous and goes directly to supporting the FCAd mission. A gift of $10 can support an hour of groundbreaking research and a gift of $100 can help create coaching education packets that will set new coaches up for success in their first coaching assignments.
